As the country’s only institution dedicated to open and distance learning, Bangladesh Open University was established in 1992 with a clear vision: to support national education policies by providing flexible, inclusive, and affordable learning opportunities. It was designed particularly to serve those who, due to various socio-economic challenges, are unable to access conventional educational institutions.
BOU offers educational opportunities to students from pre-university levels through open schooling, alongside a comprehensive range of higher education programs including diplomas, bachelor’s, master’s, MPhil, and PhD degrees—all delivered through an open and distance learning (ODL) framework without age restrictions. Our commitment is to promote action-oriented, mass-oriented, and lifelong learning, reaching learners at their doorsteps through an extensive nationwide academic network.
The University adopts a blended learning model that integrates self- study materials, face-to-face tutorials, e-learning centres, multimedia resources, and digital platforms. This flexible approach enables learners from diverse backgrounds and geographical locations to pursue quality education at their own pace and convenience.
